Good to know

  • Medical costs abroad may turn out higher than what the same care would have cost in the Netherlands. It is therefore important to know that the basic health-care plan covers expenses up to a maximum of what the health care would have cost in the Netherlands. If the health care provided abroad is more expensive than this care in the Netherlands, you will have to pay the difference yourself. With our Wereldfit and Superfit supplementary health-care plans, you are insured for these costs if you travel abroad for up to 180 days, as long as the costs are not too high. View all conditions for reimbursement.

  • Health Basic and Health Premium reimburse emergency care abroad (outside the Netherlands) if you are there short term. We define short term as a maximum of 180 consecutive days. We reimburse up to a maximum of the prevailing market rate in the country of treatment. This means that the rate charged by the health-care provider may not be unreasonably high when compared to the amount charged by other health-care providers in the country of treatment.

  • The European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) entitles you to urgent medical care in many countries. The regulations of the country where you receive the health- care will determine the level of reimbursement. The advantage of this arrangement is that you do not have to advance any costs yourself.

  • If you use certain medicines, you sometimes need a medical certificate to take them abroad. Ask your doctor for one before you travel. This will ensure that you can take your medicines with you without problems.

  • Ensure that the correct information is on the invoice. Save the original invoices and referrals. You will need them to submit your claim.
